Android 4.2 Jellybean Forgot Christmas

Photo From TechWeekEurope
It's the time of year when everyone is so excited because Christmas is coming, we prepare gifts, make lists, plan Christmas vacations and mark certain dates in our calendars. Everything is going fine until you picked up your smartphone running on the latest Android 4.2 Jellybean OS and realized that THERE IS NO DECEMBER 2012 ON YOUR CALENDAR! Yes no December on your calendar, panic arises but Hold on! Wait! Maybe it's just a bug, Android didn't predict the end of the world on December, It's just a bug being experienced due to the Android 4.2 update which debut on the Google Nexus 10 Tablet and LG Nexus 4 Phone.

Apparently Android 4.2 OS users noticed that there is no December 2012 on their Smartphone Calendars, According to an article written by Mr. Steve McCaskill, of Tech Week Europe, Google is aware of it but is not yet confirming that it is a bug.

RANT:  I really found this funny, i'm currently waiting for this jellybean update for my Galaxy Note and I really hope that I could see this one for myself, kidding aside I hope they fix this one up really quick because although this is just somewhat a minor mishap, it will be a very irritating situation for those who use their calendars alot and for those who are forgetful (anniversaries, birthdays, meetings, etc.)

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Trade-In Event SM Mall Of Asia Philippines

Samsung Philippines recently announced that they will be having a trade-in event for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and I was really interested on buying the said smartphone / phablet so I went to the SM Mall Of Asia to actually try and trade-in my Samsung Galaxy Note.

So here is the scoop on what's going on in the event. There are promotions, they held games, and there are alot of Samsung Galaxy Note 2's to try out, and they said that the Younghusband brothers were there but I wasn't able to see them.

Regarding the SGNote 2 definitely a good looking spec monster, I do not say this just because I want to have it but upon testing it, actually holding it in my hands, and comparing it with my Note 1 I would have to say it really has the edge over other flagship smartphones even including the S3. The Note 2 is really fast and responsive, even in multitasking mode and even the S Pen which was a little laggy on the Note 1 was good.

Now regarding the actual trade-in, there are a lot of issues here regarding how they price and assess the phone that you will try to trade. Most common issues after hearing some of the people who tried to get their phone assessed were these:

1. They price the units for trade in a little low. Low as in lower than what a pawnshop would pay if you pawn your phone. Seriously Php9,500 for my Note 1, I know they have standards and this isn't a get the Note 2 for free event but it actually somehow hurts my pride that they priced my smartphone that way while heading to my next problem.

2. They priced some phones without even touching them, asking when was it bought, checking the specs, or even holding the phone etc. I was so amazed that they priced my smartphone without even looking at it.

Oh well I was already focused on the fact that they will not really be giving high prices for the trade-in phones so it wasn't really that bad. It just lead me to believe that maybe -

**the assessment team were already given the instructions for a Phone=Price deal meaning there were already specific prices or price range for the different models that were accepted for trade-in and
**that they already have a sealing maximum price which is the 50% (roughly Php16-17k) of the price of the Note 2 which is in my opinion will only be attainable if you presented an iPhone 5 which was only bought yesterday.

Ok so maybe my speculations are wrong but who knows, I talked to the guy next to me and he said that his iPhone 4s was assessed to be tampered with already ( LCD Screen Changed to be precise ) just by looking at it.

But all in all the event was good, I had a great time playing with the actual SGNote2 and experiencing it was really cool! still definitely will buy 1 maybe when the price drops or when they release the LTE models of it.

Oh and regarding the prices, they will actually accept cash and installment payment with credit cards for the remaining balance that you have if you actually went on with the trade.

Prices are :
Php 32,990 for cash basis
Php 34-35,000 for 6months installment with credit card
Php 37-38,000 for 12months installment with credit card
(prices are as stated by the event staff)

Here are some of the photos of the event.

All in all still a good event, met some interesting people and got fascinated with the Phil Younghusband hologram endorser. Those interested can still go tomorrow (Oct 21 2012) and have your phone priced.

Notes: please don't be a jackass if they price your phone too low for your expectations, this is not a charity event where in you could trade in your phone for a better one for a price that you think is right, remember that this is business and you are still just a consumer, if they price your phone low walk away and sell your phone elsewhere then buy the Note2 elsewhere too.

Rants: just really hope they make some proper assessments on the phones. and please somebody from the event tell me that I'm wrong with the prices being too low.

Thanks for reading, I hope this was informative, again comments are welcome, and please someone who went to the event and had their smartphones appraised please comment. thanks!

PRICE:
Apple Store Prices are marked at- 32GB $299, and 64GB $399
Philippines GrayMarket - Php 16,500 for the 32GB

The 5th gen is definitely a must try for those who have not yet been acquainted with the iPod Touch series, it's like a almost there but not yet version of an iPhone. I'm not really an iPhone type of guy but I must say i'm really more impressed on this iPod Touch 5th gen rather on the Iphone 5.

NOTE: So basically this is a way better version of the 4th gen. also comes in with alot of new additions to it making it a really good upgrade. It really is an almost there but not yet iPhone 5. It's addition of SIRI and other neat features makes it 10 points higher on both functionality and entertainment value.
For those planning to buy this, and does not have an iPhone 5 or an iPad this is a must buy for you. It really has the power and funness that the iPod touch are known for. The colored schemes are really a great addition to it's design breaking the almost boring designs of the iPod Touch.

RANT:  I think it will be a little too pricey for the average consumer, I personally would think twice before buying it. (i'm really price conscious), but I really am more interested on this than on the iPhone 5, basically SIRI will not be a very big factor in my country, because we are way behind, way! way! behind, so SIRI most of the time will not be accurate. It has more PROS than CONS and I will suggest people to buy it as long as you have the budget for it, if not, stick to the low cost mini tablets, half the price but almost there with the fun.

Oh and why do apple always design iPods with the oh so crappy speakers? people are not using it anyway! Really a waste of space. . . Crappy Crappy Speakers!!

If you can't buy an iPhone 5 and can't stop drooling about it, why not buy the iPod Touch instead, then buy a decent low budget smartphone, it's not going to kill if you can't have the iPhone 5 will it?? Don't be a SHEEP

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini

Yes the rumors were true and the Korean giant Samsung is about to release the Samsung Galaxy S3's little brother!

And if anyone out there is wondering what it looks like? here it is.

Photo From MobileGeeks.Com
So they say that it is a Mini version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, let me just remind you please don't expect too much, when they said mini maybe they meant for the mini-budget people that almost 80% of the world's population belongs to. and please don't expect too high of the specs mini doesn't always mean small version, sometimes it means minimum specs that they could slam inside a smaller version of the bigger version!

So the specs are as follows.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 MINI : GT-I8190

DISPLAY
- 4inch SUPER AMOLED DISPLAY
- 800x480 pixels
- containing 16.67 million colors

CAMERA
PRIMARY : 5MP autofocus camera accompanied with an LED flash
SECONDARY : VGA front facing camera

CPU
-STE U8420 dual - core 1GHz

MEMORY
-16GB
- With MICROSD slot expandable to 32GB
- With 1GB of RAM

OS
-Android 4.1 JELLYBEAN

OTHERS
WIRELESS CONNECTIONS : bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi a/b/g/n2.4/5GHZ, DLNA, NFC
BATTERY : 1500mAh
OTHER CONNECTIONS : with a MICROUSB port and a standard 3.5mm audiojack
MULTI-TOUCH CAPACITATIVE SCREEN
DIMENSIONS 121.55 x 62.95 x 9.85mm
MATERIAL : Of course its PLASTIC!

NOTES: I think this is a good smartphone if they price it really right, the price is the only deciding factor if this smartphone will be a hit because seriously if you look at the specs is's oh so far away from it's bigger brother, if this is priced to high might as well save up a little more and get the actual S3, if this is priced just right then a lot of our middle classed to lower classed low budget consumers will be considering on looking in to this. If you are coming from the Small screened Samsung Smartphones and want an upgrade but don't have the money for the likes of the S3 and the NOTE2 this would be a really good option.

RANTS: Hmm looking at the specs I'm still wondering why they called it the S3 Mini.... specs oh so far away. so very far away, this should be called the Samsung Galaxy S Budget or something like that. Oh and if they price this too high I believe a lot of people will be mad or would even be hating it.
I will update you guys with the price once they release this.

thanks for reading, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. please do subscribe to my blog and again. thanks!
